Thailand’s hottest trend in ice cream has hit Savannah. I have seen this treat on Travel Channel shows, so when it popped up on my Instagram feed, I had to find them! Luckily, they are conveniently located on Broughton St. in what was previously the late night sushi dive, Sakura Downtown. The sign outside says “Savannah Seafood Shack”, but people are walking out with these deliciously beautiful bowls of ice cream rolls with toppings. I went in and ordered the Perfect Matcha with Green Tea and Matcha Ice Cream, Lychee, Strawberries, Chocolate Drizzle, and Poke Sticks.
Owners Christine and David Cutlip and Timmy Tsoi saw the excitement going on over seas and decided to take advantage of the opportunity here. The process? Cream is poured on to a plate of below zero temperatures, add flavors, mix, spread thin, roll, then add toppings. (Check out our Instagram or Facebook for the video.) The ice cream menu has something for everyone with traditional mixtures like S’mores, healthy options like Health Nut, and even one for the lovers of our local baseball team with Savannah Bananas.
Before dessert, you should order the Low Country Boil or one of their Po’ Boys. “We are a restaurant selling high quality seafood at market prices,” said Christine Cutlip. Savannah Seafood Shack is powered by Pooler Seafoods and is a perfect alternative to spending $50 per person at Joe’s Crab Shack. There are steamed and fried options and all no more than $20 per person with the lowest prices starting at $8.95 for calamari.
For now, I’ll bite into some more lychee and Poke sticks!
